Foundation Donates DVDs To Jake Hardee Fund For St. Vincent Children's Hospital
April 19, 2005
Seven-year old Jake Hardee has spent numerous nights in St. Vincent Children's Hospital as he battles a malignant brain tumor that was diagnosed in August of 2004. During his visits to the hospital, Jake always asked to watch his favorite DVD, but was told the rooms were not equipped with this technology. Instead of complaining, Jake took matters into his own hands.
Through the Jake Hardee Fund, Jake raised $2,000 to donate 40 DVD players to the children's hospital. Through his visits to the hospital, Jake became good "buddies" with Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning. Manning and his PeyBack Foundation matched Jake's contribution with $2,000 worth of DVDs.
"Jake usually spends four or five days at a time in the hospital, and I know how nice it will be to be able to bring some of his own movies to watch," said Bridget Hardee, Jake's mother. "Many families are there for much longer periods of time. I believe a little thing like the ability to watch a favorite movie might help the stay just a little bit easier."
A special presentation was held in April at the hospital. Manning produced a video of his presentation that was shown during the news conference. The Hardees also purchased a desktop computer that will be used in the Children's Hospital's third floor waiting room.
Jake underwent surgery to remove his tumor and is currently undergoing chemo therapy treatments at St.Vincent Children's Hospital. Jake is the youngest of the four Hardee children. More information on Jake can be found at www.jakehardeefund.org
